DEPOK : JAKARTA'S SATELITE CITY
Depok is one of the satelite city of Jakarta the Capital city of Indonesia was named Batavia. Its located south of Jakarta, north of Bogor, east of Tangerang and west of Bekasi. As a satelite city, Depok was just a fields of rice, swamp and empty land for the traffic and when the Netherland come to Depok represent by VOC they made it as a residence for the outlander, thats why Depok has many houses from pre-independence era like old city of Jakarta and Semarang. Over time and time after the independence of Indonesia, Depok being the most important satelite city of Jakarta because its land mostly convert to recidences for worker from Jakarta, the company area of Cikarang and Bogor. It now has 2.4 million citizens in the 200.29 km2 area.
From the history of Depok and the converting from rural city to urban city, its now be a destination for both of historical education and nature vacation. Even there's a lot of recidences in Depok, it still has the holiday destination for people who visited Depok like the lake of Babakan, the lake of Bojongsari and city forest of University of Indonesia. As its located in the middle of other big city like Jakarta mostly lived by Betawi ethnic and Bogor mostly lived by Sunda ethnic, Depok has the rich type of cultures and ethnics. the north of Depok mostly lived by Betawi ethnic and the south of it mostly lived by Sunda ethnic, it makes Depok be the place for aculturation of the ethnic and culture from both side and more addition of Java, Minang and other ethnic make Depok has various things to be learned and visited.
